Audemars Piguet and Swatch’s new “Royal Pop” watch and lanyard collaboration is off to a strong start — so strong that someone already purchased the entire collection for more than $8000 before it even dropped.
According to StockX, someone purchased the “Royal Pop” collection of watches and lanyards for $8,410. The items are moving quickly; per a report from the platform, more than 100 of the watches were sold by 11 a.m. on May 15 — when the collection itself doesn’t officially come out until May 16.
So far, the most popular watches of the collection are the Savonnette Lan Ba, Huit Blanc, and Ocho Negro with 18, 8, and 6 sales, respectively. For the lanyards, the Ocho Negro, Blaue Acht, and Huit Blanc are the most popular so far, with 18, 11, and 10 sales respectively.
As for how much these watches and lanyards are selling for…brace yourself. Per StockX, the average resale price of the lanyards is $245, while for the watches it’s $905.
The AP x Swatch “Royal Pop” collab was announced earlier this month when Swatch confirmed it was happening in an Instagram post. “Introducing Audemars Piguet x Swatch,” the company wrote. “A disruptive collaboration that fuses joyful boldness and positive provocation with the art of haute horlogerie.”
Days after the reveal, DDG took to a livestream to express his frustration with the release, due to the fact that he previously paid hundreds of thousands for an AP watch and doesn’t want people who can’t afford one to have the new watch.
“Just seeing this makes me want to sell my AP,” DDG said, angrily. “AP, what’s up, man. What’s going on? I done spent $200,000 on one of your watches. You telling me I could have waited until 2026 and spent $300 and got the same effect? The hoes can’t tell the difference.”
“That shit ain’t right,” DDG added. “It’s n***as out that really paid resale. I could see if I was getting my watches for fucking retail. I’m getting hit over the head for another $20,000 just to rock y’all watch.”
DDG’s rant wasn’t over. He wrapped up with a warning for AP, and anyone who wears one: if the collab sells very well, he won’t be wearing his AP watch anymore. “Y’all going to make a billion dollars off this shit,” he claimed. “I can’t rock no AP no more, bruh. If this shit go up too much or gets too hot, I’m selling my shit.”
Once the clip started making its way around social media, DDG responded to it on X in an unapologetic manner.
“Only n***as who collect watches understand my reasoning for frustration,” he wrote. “My AP watch is rare & discontinued, so I HAVE to pay resale. That’s like buying a Ferrari & they collab with Honda & make a Ferrari Civic for $30k… but my bad for pissing y’all lil n***as off! get ya AP!”
