When you think of Travis Scott’s Nike sneakers, you think of earthy brown tones. Maybe a bit of olive here and there. But for the upcoming Travis Scott x Air Jordan 1 Low OG ‘Canary,’ the Texas-born rapper has gone wild. When they were first teased at the end of last year, many sneakerheads didn’t think that these would actually drop. But, the sneaker gods have just gone and confirmed an official release date—and it’s a lot sooner than expected.
Marking the Utopia artist’s seventh take on this Air Jordan silhouette, it’s decked out in a full leather construction with a bunch of perforations dotted across the toebox. His signature backwards Swoosh glides through the lateral sidewall, and “Cactus Jack” logos are stitched both on the tongue tags and heel. So far, so Travis Scott.
Well, unlike the other six AJ1 Lows, this one is overlaid by panels of bright ‘Canary Yellow’. The flipped Swoosh has also been dipped in ‘Racer Blue,’ and the Air midsole is lined with gum rubber for a little more grip. While this color combo might seem slightly random at first, it’s actually a nice homage to the Grammy Award nominee’s alma mater, Lawrence E. Elkins High School. According to a 2018 interview with Jimmy Fallon, it was here that he was part of the Thespian Society and discovered his love for Broadway and performing.
