If there’s one thing we’ve learned over the past couple of months, it’s that Cillian Murphy can wear a suit better than just about anyone else. Whether it’s the Victorian playboy-coded ensemble that he donned at the Golden Globes in January, or the pinstripe double-breasted number he sported on Jimmy Kimmel Live! last week, the Irish actor just, well… suits everything. This was made even clearer at the 35th Annual Producers Guild Awards in Hollywood, where he did his best impression of a very fashion-forward J. Robert Oppenheimer.

Spotted on the red carpet with his costars Emily Blunt and Robert Downey Jr. (or his “Oppenhomies,” as he likes to call them), Murphy wore a classic black shirt and tie combo with a beautifully textured charcoal suit and some shiny leather Chelsea boots.

Compared to some of his most recent looks—like the sexy, sheer shirt that he slipped on during the Oppenheimer premiere last summer—it’s a lot more low-key. However, with his longer-than-usual tie and high-waisted pleated trousers, it’s also reminiscent of the stellar costumes he wore when as the father of the atomic bomb in the 2023 epic. Even the super wide lapels on his suit look like something straight out of the ’40s.

In other words, as Murphy continues his Oscar campaign apace, this impeccably retro getup serves as the perfect subtle nod to his much-acclaimed role—and, frankly, an excellent blueprint for how your next suit should fit in 2024.
