Scottish luxury brand Lyle & Scott have teamed up with guerilla e-seller turned streetwear brand Wavey Garms for a new limited collection that bridges the gaps between the former’s storied heritage in the golf world and the latter’s reputation as a nexus of music, fashion and nostalgia-driven innovation.

Key Lyle & Scott visual signifiers, such as 1940s vintage script typefaces or the early golfwear silhouettes, are revamped with new twists or recontextualised with rave and streetwear elements. Co-branded patches have been added to the pale crew neck knit, the signature jacket has been given a touch of ‘90s rave culture, and added flourishes have been given to accessories like the rope motif on the classic five-panel cap.

Part of the new collaboration was inspired by the Oasis reunion tour and the renewed in interest in Britpop. For Wavey Garms founder Andrès Branco, Manchester’s visual identity in the ‘90s—the famed baggy silhouette and relaxed swagger—was key, as was the style-conscious football culture that celebrated vintage sportswear brands like Lyle & Scott.

“The announcement of the Oasis comeback tour became an unexpected cultural reference point,” Branco explains. “Although it has since happened, at the time, it really shaped our thinking, tapping into a pure ‘90s Britpop energy. We leaned into Manchester-inspired aesthetics: relaxed, baggy silhouettes, smart casual layering and statement outerwear.”

In many ways, Wavey Garms is the natural heir to that mindset, paying close attention to what came before to inform the cutting edge of modern style. A central element of this collaboration, which unites two seemingly disparate brands and eras, is Wavey Garms’ understanding of the heritage they’re working with. All the upgrades, new takes and reworkings are executed without compromising on the identity that has defined Lyle & Scott for over a century and a half.

Wavey Garms have done this before, tapping into the essence of a brand’s visual identity and playing with the context without losing sight of that core. When Wavey Garms first emerged, branding and wearing logos with pride was a big thing. Now, things are a little different. Quiet luxury is more of a guiding principle in a lot of consumers’ wardrobes.

With this collaboration, Wavey Garms and Lyle & Scott adapt to that deftly, playing up not just the logo, but the style and execution. The Lyle & Scott logo is central, but this is more about the tasteful knitwear, the rope flourishes and inseams—a smart and well-thought-out collaboration that’s more than the sum of its parts.

The ‘Lyle & Scott curated by Wavey Garms’ collection drops at 8am on Thursday 23rd April, available via lyleandscott.com and selected European retailers.
