Sydney Sweeney just showed off her love for denim with two completely different looks.
The genesis of denim’s popularity dates back to the last century, when it went from being a comfortable fabric to work with to a favorite option for fashion designers. In 2024, however, denim is being worn twice as much. While there is probably (almost) no one without a pair of jeans in their closet, there’s an air of rebellion synonymous with the fabric, especially when transferred to another garment.
That’s the vibe Sydney Sweeney exemplified when experimenting with two double-denim looks on May 4. Sweeney is one of the most celebrated actors currently on the scene, thanks to her versatility. Now, after risking (and winning) on the red carpet during the Anyone But You and Immaculate press tour, she’s playing around with the endless possibilities that denim has to offer.
First, Sweeney was photographed strolling through the streets of New York with an outfit signed entirely by Miu Miu. Dressed in a pair of baggy jeans and bandana top—both in denim with brown suede details—Sweeney highlighted the low-rise look with a pair of exposed white boxers, a popular trend that we began to be seen on last year’s catwalks. As for the accessories, she chose a white mini hobo bag (also by Miu Miu) that matched her underwear, a black belt, and very pointy stilettos in the same shade.
At night, the star of Euphoria star left an Upper East Side hotel in a completely different style, but without giving up her favorite fabric. This time, her two-piece denim look featured a pair of micro-shorts and a corseted jacket from Sarah Burton’s latest collection for Alexander McQueen (spring-summer 2024). Fresh off the runway, the performer joined the list of celebrities who have worn this sought-after look, including Beyoncé. In terms of accessories, Sweeney chose a pair of white heels with metallic toe cap, and stuck with her mini bag from earlier in the day.
With these two appearances, Sydney Sweeney shows wide range that double-denim has to offer. In addition to the variety of colors and patterns available, the trend is easy to combine with all kinds of accessories to conjure up styles that provide a somewhat indomitable air.
