Kate Middleton, the Princess of Wales, was just spotted out in public for the first time since December 2023.

She was seen on Monday, March 4, in the passenger seat of an Audi being driven by her mother, Carole Middleton, near Windsor Castle. She was wearing sunglasses and sitting upright. Peep the evidence on TMZ.

Ever since Kensington Palace announced that the princess would be undergoing a somewhat vague “abdominal surgery,” the public has wondered why there haven’t been more frequent or clear updates about her health. Here’s a complete timeline of all the scarce information and scant updates.

Yes, Kate has a right to privacy, but given that King Charles III is also being treated for medical issues (cancer), and that all the top four royals (King Charles III, Queen Camilla, Princess Catherine, Prince William) are taking time off from royal duties to deal with these illnesses, many started to wonder if something was…afoot. Theories ranged from “hysterectomy” to “BBL [sarcastic]” to “BBL [sincere].” We’re used to celebrities using spokespeople and social media to craft a narrative, and even the king acknowledged the importance of transparency to avoid “speculation.” In the announcement of his diagnosis, Buckingham Palace wrote, “His Majesty has chosen to share his diagnosis to prevent speculation and in the hope it may assist public understanding for all those around the world who are affected by cancer.” Wouldn’t Kate Middleton want to address/prevent speculation too? And assist public understanding for all those around the world who are affected by unspecificed abdominal issues?

Well, maybe the new, grainy car picture will put all this rubbish to bed. Probably not, but maybe! At least we know that the worst didn’t happen, and it’s good to see she’s got her mom by her side.
