Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, wants fans to disengage from an individual who claimed to have been uncredited for alleged Yeezy work.
On Dec. 27, the rapper-producer and designer responded with a statement after creative director, Erasmo Ciufo, credited himself with the work of Yeezy head of design, Gosha Rubchinskiy. The Russian designer, who has his own namesake brand, joined Yeezy last year and also provided the cover art and merch for Ye and Ty Dolla $ign’s Vultures album.
“The arrival of this legendary Russian designer at YEEZY, the pre-eminent global brand in music and fashion, is a milestone in design history,” read the statement upon Rubchinskiy’s hiring, per Ye’s former news site Yews.
On Instagram, Ciufo called himself a creative director who works “silently behind the scenes” and makes sure that he’s “taking care for the craft.” But in a statement, Ye shut down the claims of Ciufo providing designs to Rubchinskiy, writing that the creative director had “nothing to do with the graphics Gosha designed.”
“The era of people taking credit and diluting the work ends now,” the statement concluded, before Ye encouraged fans to visit the official Yeezy website.
While Rubchinskiy’s past collaborations include Burberry, Dr. Martens, and Levi’s, the reputation of the now-40-year-old was almost impacted after he was accused of sending inappropriate messages to a 16-year-old boy in 2018. A statement from the designer’s teams called the accusation “invalid” after the young male was alleged to have been a model who was disgruntled about casting.
