Thanks to Timothée Chalamet, the Dune: Part Two press tour is looking like one of the biggest menswear shows in Hollywood. It was this day last week when the Oscar nominee showed up in Mexico City wearing a full leather mock neck from Hermès—and then he rocks up to the red carpet in Paris in something even brasher.

At Le Grand Rix, the actor arrived in an all-black suit, which sounds slightly classic and safe (not a bad thing, by the way). But this two-piece was custom-made for him by Givenchy, crafted from top-spec wool and fitted with nice, broad shoulders and traditional notch lapels. Chalamet also jumped into a pair of matching trousers anchored by shiny Jimmy Choo Chelsea boots.

What makes the outfit especially futuristic—and what makes it feel inherently Dune, the famous Frank Herbert space opera upon which the latest Denis Villeneuve movie is based—is the silver metal breastplate that’s been shaped and moulded to Chalamet’s specifications. It’s textbook neo-menswear; one part video game costume by Hideo Kojima and two parts fashion art by Hajime Sorayama. And that’s long been Chalamet’s beat. In 2019, the actor arrived at the Venice Film Festival in a silver prince suit by cult designer Haider Ackermann. And just the year before, he debuted that viral Louis Vuitton harness: a slightly sexy, very forward-thinking accessory that became a calling card of the late creative director Virgil Abloh.

The latest Chalamet fit is even more advanced. On his left wrist, eagled-eyed watch enthusiasts spotted the brand new Cartier Tank Cintrée, introduced at the end of year. While this model has previously been housed in gold, this new version gets an all-platinum case with brushed sides and a ruby-set crown.

On paper, it’s a classic black suit and a dress watch. On Timothée Chalamet, it’s a fit from the future. All you need is a black suit of your own—like, say, one of the versions conveniently placed above—to supercharge your style, too.

This story originally appeared on British GQ with the title ‘Timothée Chalamet sent the black suit to the Moon’.
