On Running has unveiled the latest version of its Cloudboom franchise, with the introduction of the Cloudboom Strike 2 and LightSpray Cloudboom Strike 2.

These new variations of On’s road-racing marathon shoes introduce the CloudTec Sphere cushioning in the midsoles for both silhouettes, which the brand says makes them 15 percent lighter than the previous versions. The differentiating factor from the Cloudboom Strike 2 and LightSpray Cloudboom Strike 2 is the first pair featuring a mesh upper, and the latter uses a laceless one-piece upper crafted by robots.

“The results we’ve already seen from athletes competing in the LightSpray Cloudboom Strike 2 reinforce On’s position at the forefront of elite road racing innovation,” On’s senior director of innovation, Nils Arne Altrogge, said. “Our brief for the Cloudboom Strike 2 was not just about maximising speed, but sustaining it as athletes approach the crucial closing stages of a marathon. By combining our LightSpray upper with new CloudTec Sphere technology, we’ve engineered a unique fresh-leg advantage that helps athletes maintain performance deep into the race.”

Readers will be able to cop On’s Cloudboom Strike 2 and LightSpray Cloudboom Strike 2 sneakers on July 30 at On.com and at select On Running stockists. The Cloudboom Strike 2 retails for $250, and the LightSpray Cloudbook Strike 2 costs $310.
