New Balance has been enjoying a strong 2025—the stalwart sneaker brand has launched hit grandpa-y silhouettes, linked up with the hottest labels in fashion, and revived a handful of long-beloved models. And thanks to the New Balance Abzorb 2000, things are only looking up.
After months of teasers, the Boston sportswear brand’s next big sneaker is finally here. Borrowing a few moves from the 9060 silhouette (which has become the go-to shoe for very famous people like Margot Robbie) the Abzorb 2000 is inspired by the kind of retro runners you might find deep within New Balance’s archives.
Working on top of a breezy mesh base, the shoe is overlaid by suede and synthetic panels to keep everything structured. An oversized “N” on the sides in silver keeps in line with the old-school vibe, and the OG “NB” logo is stamped on the tongue and heel. Down below, the chunky midsole comprises five giant Abzorb pods (the same tech that’s used on other bangers like the 1906R and 992). It’s also fitted with a midfoot plate for added support.
For its grand debut, the New England label opted for a ‘Blue Agate’ and ‘Still Water’ combo. And judging by what the lads on r/Newbalance are saying, that was a solid choice. “I think they picked the perfect color to launch these with,” says one Redditor. “Having lived through the era this shoe is referencing, this exact shade of pearlescent baby blue is like a Sony MD player, a Winamp skin, a Baby Phat velour tracksuit.” Another simply said: “I will see this sneaker everywhere.”
