On Tuesday night, Ye took to Instagram to air grievances about Adidas, Jerry Lorenzo, “fake friends,” and more.
“When you google Yeezy.com the adidas site comes before the Yeezy site Members at adidas,” he wrote in a caption. “Stop doing this Stop doing your moves to hold me back Our partnership is done You’re a 60 billion dollar company that froze my accounts Now I’m back on my feet (no pun intended) and I’m not going to stand for this (no pun again) I did phenomenal work for you guys and because I stood up for myself yall tried to intimidate and oppress me everyone remembers I had major issues with adidas because of design theft and oppression before “the tweet.”
He went on to disparage Lorenzo for his work with the brand, calling him “corny and disloyal.” At the end of 2020, Adidas and Fear of God announced their Fear of God Athletics deal, with Lorenzo also being appointed as the creative director of Adidas Basketball. The first full collection from Lorenzo under Fear of God Athletics arrived in November 2023.
According to Ye, he was the “bigger man” for supporting Lorenzo at his 2023 Fear of God show at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles following his fallout with Adidas.
“Side note yall know Jerry was corny and disloyal for doing work with adidas after the way they handled things I still showed up to his show that was a copy of my Hollywood bowl show being the so called bigger man but I’m never doing that again for no one,” he continued. “It’s Yeezy over everything Everyone that ever took a picture next to me that had their own clothing lines and agendas everyone knows they was acting like they were my friends to promote they weak ass fake Yeezy lines They never wanted to truly work for the king.”
While continuing to refer to himself as “king,” the artist formerly known as Kanye West, said his Yeezy brand, from which he’s been selling pieces for $20, is “burning the game to the ground.”
“The Yeezy $20 dollar price is burning the game to the ground leaving only Yeezy left Everyone knows the costs in luxury fashion are way marked up I should have never even wore those Prada glasses,” his message reads. “The Yeezy.com site made 100 million dollars last year and that was with it only being up for 6 months I took the site down for 6th months to get control over my Shopify accounts People wanted to make me believe that I couldn’t do this on my own We sold over a million pairs of pods and I’ve been working on ten other styles for the past 2 years It’s Yeezy for the people Everything else was in the way If there are grammatical errors as always rewrite in the comments and I will update Thank you.”
This isn’t the first time Ye disparaged someone he worked with in the fashion world. In 2022, Tremaine Emory and Ye’s relationship became public when Emory responded to Ye’s mention of Virgil Abloh during a “victim campaign.” Ye also wore a “Tremendez” t-shirt, a nickname for Abloh.
In 2024, Ye and Adidas resolved their legal dispute, reaching a settlement out of court with no payments exchanged. Both parties withdrew all claims, making the end of their longstanding legal battle, according to Adidas CEO Bjørn Gulden. The legal battle ensued in 2022 after Ye’s partnership ended following his anti-Semitic remarks on social media.
Back in 2023, Lorenzo opened up about it being “tough” to work with Ye, explaining that the two stopped working together in 2016. “Anyone that knows Kanye will tell you it’s a tough relationship to hold on to,” said Lorenzo in an interview with The Wall Street Journal.
Last year, Jerry Lorenzo spoke with Complex’s Noah Callahan-Bever about his transition from sports management to streetwear, hosting events for industry leaders.
