Most people watch Wimbledon for the actual tennis. But British actor Joe Alwyn, inadvertently or not, managed to make this year’s hallowed tournament all about the fits—specifically, his layered-up Ralph Lauren fit from the brand’s ultra elite Purple Label line.

On day ten of the 2024 tournament, the Conversations with Friends star was spotted in the VIP stands with a tiny coffee cup in hand, a big navy tee layered under a navy striped shirt with a indigo-hued suede shirt jacket thrown over top. A solid cocoon of menswear, and one that’s essential in this miserable summer weather.

The overshirt is grail-y in all the right ways, too. It’s fitted with two workwear-style chest pockets, a slightly-oversized collar, and horn buttons. Alwyn rolled up the sleeves, which makes everything a bit more casual. Typically, Wimbledon might be all about the suits, but there’s no harm in not trying so hard.

Alwyn also threw on some slightly high-waisted white trousers and a pair of tan-stitched canvas espadrilles. It’s the kind of summery shoe that you’d wear to the Amalfi Coast or Capri or Lake Como or Sardinia. But if you’re a stylish-enough guy like Alwyn, you can wear it wherever the hell you want and still look good—even in cloudy, sad London.

And it’s in this sweet spot where style-minded celebs ought to thrive. It looks easy but considered—and if the prospect of rocking four different shades of blue in one outfit sounds like a lot, in practice here, it works. So be more like Joe Alwyn! Experiment with your menswear! Have fun! Divert attention away from the actual sport!
