Though the fits of Dakota Johnson routinely secure her a top spot on womenswear moodboards, in the past few weeks it’s the menswear guys taking note. Between shooting takes of her latest movie Materialists (and on-set too) with Chris Evans and the internet’s eternal daddy Pedro Pascal, she’s started dressing like the kind of guy who insists on pints of Guinness and wearing a tie to lunch.

Every time she steps out, it’s another look that seems to bang hard on menswear Twitter/X—and it doesn’t even feel like she’s trying. There’s been knitwear, shirting, denim, tank tops, massive coats. All the good stuff, basically.

It’s her laid-back looks that are getting noticed—and her most recent outing was no exception. Let’s start from the top. First up, there’s her Mets baseball cap. It’s not fashion-y. It costs less than $25. It’s simply a part of the West Village uniform; no interest in baseball required.

Then, you’ve got a selection of wardrobe staples—black cat eye sunglasses, a red knit, a lived-in white cropped tee, and classic burgundy cords. And everything’s finished off with her go-to green Sambas—a sign that their trend lifespan hasn’t ended just yet. A retro sneaker stan, she was on the hype before the Samba was picked up by 99 percent of London—and, thankfully, way before Rishi Sunak. Plus, she’s already been seen wearing the Nike Cortez, which is set to be the next sneaker grail.

Elsewhere around NYC, she’s been spotted in a white tank with blue denim, a fluffy sweater tucked into jeans and a silky shirt layered over a tank—alongside a footwear rotation of loafers and sneakers. Her jewelry is always pretty subtle, from silver chains to simple rings. And she never goes anywhere without her sparkling water and AirPods—two more essentials we can get on board with.

Nothing showy. Nothing try-hard. Just good old-fashioned menswear put together in a way that feels inherently and effortlessly cool. And she’s not the only one showing us how it’s done—see Ayo Edibiri, Katie Holmes, Malia Obama, et al. We could all learn a thing or two from Dakota Johnson and the girls.
