Now that flat shoes are very much back in style, I’m finding any and every excuse to wear jeans with ballet flats. The slip-on style looks particularly sleek with baggy jeans, and the exaggerated curves draw the right kind of attention to your footwear. Play with proportions, dressing your horseshoe denim with classic ballet flats—or experiment with sister styles like Mary Janes—for everyday ease. Want to elevate your look? Opt for subtle, high-vamp pumps that keep it cute and elevated for work or for weekend plans with the girls.
With kitten heels for a dinner date
Barrel jeans, with their sculptural, cropped ankles, can be dressed up, too. Make your favorite pair occasion-appropriate with a pair of heels that wouldn’t look out of place at a black-tie wedding or cocktail party; the high-low contrast looks great with a blazer or a nice blouse. Best of all, you don’t have to sacrifice walkability. Unlike stilettos, comfortable kitten heels will give your jeans an air of effortless cool. (I’m all for shoes that boost height, too.)
