Since winning his second Oscar for The Brutalist in February, Adrien Brody has been maximizing his leisure time. He’s returned to making art, to some chagrin. (A few subjects of Brody’s recent assemblage paintings: a Warholian Marilyn Monroe, Jean-Michel Basquiat, and a switchblade-wielding Maggie Simpson.) He’s produced music that has been described as a combination of “reggae, R&B, and dark hip hop.” And as of this week, he’s chilling out on vacation in sunny Sardinia with his girlfriend, the designer Georgina Chapman, and their pals Edward Norton and David Blaine, alongside their respective families.

When Brody and company boarded a Mediterranean-bound boat in the South of France on Monday, the actor dressed comfortably relaxed in green cargo pants, dark shades, and a white T-shirt that winked at Brody’s role as the fictional Hungarian architect László Tóth in The Brutalist. The graphic on the front is a mock-commemorative emblem for Tóth’s (fictional) retrospective, titled The Presence of the Past, at the (real-life) inaugural Venice Biennale of Architecture 1980. The shirt is made by A24, the film’s production company—which also maintains a steady side gig as a merch purveyor—and is, naturally, sold out online.

For a provincial touch, Brody also carried a woven straw tote.

The actor’s commemorative László Tóth tee is a good reminder that László Tóth (who is, to reiterate, not a real man) is one of the best-dressed characters to grace the silver screen in recent memory. I do wonder what Tóth himself would think of the idea of faux memorabilia: Would he, a modernist, find it conceptually superfluous, or would he dig its pseudo-dadaistic charm? I can see him being more of a plain white T-shirt kind of guy.

Nonetheless, if A24 decides to produce a graphic tee featuring Tóth in his perfect pleated gray sweater, they know where to find me.
