With Justin Bieber’s Coachella headlining sets now in the rearview, we’re taking a look at the custom Dune sofas the SWAG artist had commissioned for his SKYLRK backstage compound at the annual Indio festival.
The compound, described in press notes as a “private sanctuary” for Bieber and friends, boasted a one-of-a-kind “scenography” centered around custom takes on the Pierre Paulin-designed Dune sofa inspired by colorways associated with the two-time Grammy winner’s SKYLRK brand.
Paulin, Paulin, Paulin—a family endeavor dedicated to keeping the late Pierre Paulin’s work at the forefront of design—installed the custom sofas. Notably, the original Dune design was not produced while Pierre was alive due to technological limitations.
At this year’s Coachella, however, it was brought to life to give guests including SZA and Hailey Bieber a comfortable place to step away from the madness amid the two-weekend music festival.
Below, get a closer look.
The Dune, as Complex detailed in this piece published last year, has developed a strong reputation as an undeniable grail for design enthusiasts over the years, thanks in part to its well-documented adoration from stars like Frank Ocean and others.
“Somehow our personalities and [and Pierre’s] work created something that connected to the new generation in a very unexpected way,” Benjamin Paulin, the late designer’s youngest son, told YJ Lee for Complex last December.
As for Bieber, what comes next after Coachella remains unconfirmed for now, though it’s been widely speculated that he could soon be announcing a new tour.
