No, we’re not talking about that Kennedy series. We’re talking about the other Kennedy series, the one on Netflix called Kennedy, which will be premiering in the near future.

The culture is experiencing a renewed interest in America’s most famous political dynasty, thanks to certain current politicians as well as a what’s streaming lately. Which is why, in addition to Ryan Murphy’s Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette, we’re about to get a The Crown-style series about the entire Kennedy clan.

Naturally, we all have questions. How far back into the Kennedy lineage will this show go? Will there be multiple seasons? And, most importantly, when does it drop?

Without further ado, here is everything we know about the upcoming Kennedy series on Netflix.

What era of the Kennedys will this show cover?

According to Netflix, Kennedy takes as its inspiration the book JFK: Coming of Age in the American Century, 1917–1956, by Fredrik Logevall. The action will begin long before John Fitzgerald Kennedy becomes president, beginning instead with his father, Joe Kennedy Sr., in the 1930s. The series will follow Joe Sr. and his wife Rose as they raise their nine children—including Jack, a.k.a. JFK—and somehow rise to prominence against all odds.

“The story of the Kennedys is the closest we have to American mythology—somewhere between Shakespeare and The Bold and the Beautiful,” showrunner and executive producer Sam Shaw told Tudum. “But Fredrik Logevall’s stunning, nuanced biography pulls a veil on the human strivings and burdens behind the myth, revealing as much about our present moment, how we got here and where we’re going, as about the Kennedys themselves.”

Who is in the cast?

Kennedy already has a pretty impressive cast. Michael Fassbender leads as Joe Kennedy Sr., with Laura Donnelly as Rose Kennedy, and Nick Robinson and Joshuah Melnick playing their sons Joe Jr. and Jack, respectively.

When does the show premiere?

We don’t have a premiere date yet, but we don’t imagine the wait will be terribly long. Already, per Tatler, Kennedy has begun filming in London.

How many seasons will there be?

There is no set number of seasons yet, but from the beginning, Kennedy has been billed as following the model set by The Crown, per Variety. This would indicate a new season or two for each new generation of Kennedys, which is an opportunity to examine the impact this one family has had on American society for nearly 100 years.
