Fit matters above all. “To size yourself, measure the fullest part of your bust, your waist (the narrowest part), and your hips (the widest part),” says Monti Landers, founder of Riot Swim, who recommends checking out the brand’s size chart as a guide. If you’re between sizes, it’s usually better to size up. Overly tight suits tend to dig in and feel worse over time.

Pay attention to construction, too. Adjustable straps can make a big difference, particularly if you have a shorter or longer torso. Shopping for a swimsuit for a large bust? Look for features like underwire, molded cups, or wider straps. And when you’re choosing between styles, think about how you’ll actually wear it—lounging, swimming, chasing a kid around—since that can change how much support you’ll want.
