To celebrate the premiere of The Drama, the film’s leading lady Zendaya referenced an age-old bridal tradition for her red carpet look.

“Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue,” is a classic poem that instructs brides on what to wear for their weddings: something old to protect their future baby, something new to represent the future, something borrowed from another wed couple for good luck, and something blue to represent purity and loyalty.

Eagle-eyed fans might have spotted Zendaya following this tradition while standing next to her co-star Robert Pattinson, donning her 2015 Oscars dress.

“I was thinking with [Law Roach] about how I might dress for this film, and I remembered the saying, ‘Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue,’” she told Variety. “So I thought I’d bring [this dress] back up to date. [The 2015 Oscars ceremony] was such an important moment for me, for my community, for my loved ones, and it just seemed fitting. As it just so happens to be a wedding dress, the timing was perfect.”

Longtime stylist Law Roach confirmed this, writing on X, “Who remembers this dress and all the headlines that came with it?” He was referencing the controversy after reporter Giuliana Rancic said Zendaya’s hair, which was styled in long dreadlocks at the time, looked like “she smells like patchouli oil and weed.”

Zendaya, then only 18-years-old, took to social media to fire back at Rancic’s comments, writing, “There is a fine line between what is funny and disrespectful. Someone said something about my hair at the Oscars that left me in awe. Not because I was relishing in rave outfit reviews, but because I was hit with ignorant slurs and pure disrespect.”

The Drama, directed by Kristoffer Borgli, stars Zendaya and Pattinson as an engaged couple attempting to hold it together week before their wedding after playing a game with some friends that reveals a shocking revelation that could put everything in jeopardy.

Going along with the theme, Zendaya even acted as a witness for a real wedding as part of The Drama’s rollout. A24 sponsored the event, offering couples a chance to get married “the A24 way” in Las Vegas.

As for her personal life, Roach let it slip that she is already wed to Tom Holland after their engagement in December 2024. While the pair hasn’t acknowledged the news, Zendaya has already been spotted wearing a wedding band with her engagement ring at the 2026 Oscars, lending Roach’s comments some credibility.

The Drama is expected to arrive in theaters Friday, April 3.
