Viewers have been wondering who dies on And Just Like That… ever since photos emerged of the cast wearing funeral attire while they were filming on location in New York City. In fact, our own pop culture writer, Elizabeth Logan, surmised that the funeral is for Samantha Jones, since Kim Cattrall has said she won’t return for season three after making a much-talked about cameo in season two.
But would the show really kill off Samantha? After all, Carrie has already been through the loss of Big, while her BFF, Stanford, permanently moved to Kyoto, Japan (his portrayer, Willie Garson, passed away in real life in 2021). Plus, even though Samantha isn’t really part of the AJLT… universe (aside from random text messages between her and Carrie), it seems awfully cruel to even think that the beloved character would no longer be around.
If it’s not Samantha though, who are the characters paying tribute to? There’s also theories the funeral could be for Steve Brady, Miranda’s ex-husband, who is the father of their son, Brady Hobbes. David Eigenberg has reoccured on And Just Like That… since its launch, and while Cynthia Nixon (Miranda) confirms to Glamour that Steve will be back this season, he’s not seen in the funeral pictures.
So who is attending the funeral, thereby assuring that they’re alive and well? Carrie and Aidan, obviously. And Seema, Miranda, Giuseppe, Anthony, Harry, and Charlotte. Even though Lisa Todd Wexler (played by Nicole Ari Parker) and her husband, Herbert (played by Christopher Jackson), aren’t in the below photo, they were also seen attending the funeral in other photos.
