One of the most sought-after orgasms is the blended orgasm (a.k.a. the combo orgasm), which is when you climax from more than one erogenous zone being stimulated. Any spot on your body that induces arousal can be paired to create a blended orgasm. As Carol Queen, PhD, a staff expert at Good Vibrations, explains, orgasms happen in the brain and when a non-blended or “ordinary” orgasm occurs, the nerve signals are coming from whatever erotic zones are receiving pleasurable sensations. “In the case of a blended orgasm, the nerve signals are coming from more than one of these bodily zones,” says Queen. That can mean the clitoris plus the vagina or the penis plus the nipples.

Although we tend to think of blended orgasms as something that can only happen during simultaneous clitoral and G-spot stimulation, there are far more combos to choose from. “Perhaps, you orgasm while having both your clitoris and nipples stimulated,” says Laurie Mintz, Lelo staff expert, licensed psychologist, and certified sex therapist. “If you orgasm during penetrative sex while stimulating the clitoris with your hands or a sex toy, that’s a blended orgasm.”

Can everyone have a blended orgasm?

If you’re able to experience a regular orgasm, then there’s a very good chance that you can also have a blended orgasm. According to Queen, they’re quite common, and with so many erogenous zones to work with, you have a good shot at nailing one. Unless someone has nerve damage, it’s very likely that they can experience a blended orgasm, says Queen. “This can also include people who have not orgasmed in other ways; sometimes the additional stimulation allows a person to get all the way there.” Of course, like anything sex-related, it takes practice, understanding how your body responds to pleasure, and recognizing the ways in which you become aroused.

How to have a blended orgasm

If you’re thinking, “Oh, heck yes, I want in on this,” then I have some good news for you: We’re going to teach you how. But that doesn’t mean everyone needs a blended orgasm to have enjoyable partnered sex or an incredible masturbation session. “Not everything works for everybody, and whatever works for you is just fine,” says Mintz. After all, the clitoral orgasm is the easiest orgasm to attain if you have a vulva, with 36.6% of people needing their clitoris stimulated in order to orgasm.

If you’re a beginner, start with the most common take on it first: G-spot stimulation and clit stimulation at once. Before you do anything, you want to gather your necessary tools: lube, vibrator, and a G-spot sex toy, which can either be a nonvibrating dildo or vibrating dildo. (Fun fact: rabbit vibrators are great for this.)

While stimulating the inside of your vaginal wall with either a toy or your fingers, you also want to include external stimulation by giving your clitoris some major attention too—those 10,000 nerve endings are the key to sexual pleasure. You want to keep stimulating these two areas until you have a vaginal orgasm, clitoral orgasm, or a simultaneous orgasm—that latter essentially being blended.
