We’re Pro Chunky Sandal. Here Are 10 Great Choices for Men.

Yes, of course, go for a pair of Birkenstock Arizonas. You’ll never catch us talking you out of those as your go-to sandal. But if you don’t think of yourself as a Birkenstock kind of person or you want something that feels a little newer, the Kyoto sandal has the same cork footbed but with a a single, thick strap around the top.

Veja’s Etna slide is one of our favorite shoe drops this year because of a few things. One, the shape is excellent. The footbed is inviting, the suede straps secure and supportive. But they also just feel updated, thanks to that chunkier sole and suede upper. Sandals don’t often feel grown up, but these do.

These are not the sandals we’re going to try to convince you to wear to dinner (please don’t) but they are great for more casual activities. Your beloved Docs, now in a sandal. Actually though, don’t sleep on Docs for lighter shoes—they are just as supportive and long-lasting as the boots but not nearly as sweaty. True to any Doc, these do take some breaking in to get just right. But once you put in the work, it’ll be near impossible to find a shoe that fits you better.

Moncler and Suicoke teamed up to make these extremely gorpcore sandals with Suicoke’s signature ripstop straps at the top but done with a more durable bottom. The cork and Vibram soles are functional and make the whole shoe look irreverent and cool.

Leave it to McQueen to come up with the most dramatic sandal imaginable. These rubber slides sit on top of a huge sole, which is both comfortable under foot and a nod to ignoring all prescribed style rules. Wear them with white crew socks to really confuse the fashion-averse.

Nike’s Calm slides are great. The cushioned foam on top and under the foot makes them a pleasure to slide on after the gym, grabbing the mail, or heading to the beach. At $50 (cheaper when they go on sale, which they often do), these are an easy way to try out something a little chunkier without a huge financial commitment.

AllSaints footwear department tens to fly under the radar, but we won’t stand for it. The shoes are great, including these slides. They’re made well, with cork and rubber supporting under the foot and a high-quality suede above. Now these are the kind of sandals you could wear to dinner.
