Continuing the run of very expensive watches spotted at Wimbledon (David Beckham started the trend with his diamond-encrusted watch, quickly followed by Russell Crowe’s ‘Tiffany’ Rolex) is Tom Holland, who sat at Centre Court with his younger brother yesterday.
Wearing a JW Anderson shirt and jeans, Dr. Martens shoes, and Jacques Marie Mage sunnies, the Spider-Man star dressed up the ensemble with a Rolex Cosmograph Daytona in platinum.
A quick scroll on the watchmaker’s website confirms its price at a scorching $79,300.
But if you want to get your hands on that ice-blue dial, expect to pay a lot more: This second-hand model is going for more than $120,000.
This is not the first time we’ve seen Holland in some flashy horology. He wore the same timepiece to the British Grand Prix over the weekend, and over the years he’s had Rolex Daytonas, Submariners, and the GMT-Master II on rotation. He’s also worn a number of Patek Phillipe watches.
Alongside the dial color and the contrasting chocolate-hue bezel and sub-dial rings, other notable features come in the form of the sapphire-crystal case back, which showcases the calibre 4131 in-house automatic chronograph updated with a patented Chronergy escapement, and a blued Parachrom hairspring.
As Daytonas are packed with motor-racing history, it’s hardly surprising that Holland would pull this special design out for an F1 outing. And considering the ties to high-level competition in general, it’s certainly not the type of watch to be out of place at Wimbledon. In fact, in my mind, it knocks all the other star-endorsed watches out of the park.
