Known for flexing his Super Bowl rings, Tom Brady switched it up for the Super Bowl by showing up to the commentary booth wearing a $740,000 watch.
Yeah, that’s right —Brady wore a Jacob & Co watch worth nearly three-quarters of a million dollars while making his Super Bowl announcing debut for Fox. The NFL legend sported the Jacob & Co Yellow Sapphire Caviar Tourbillon watch that retails for $740,000.
According to the company, the watch is inspired by caviar and the way it tightly packs into a tin and appears square and smooth even though the pieces are round—hence the name Caviar Tourbillon.
“The Caviar Tourbillon recreates the luxurious, tight appearance of a freshly opened tin of caviar with 424 invisibly-set baguette-cut gems,” writes Jacob & Co. on their website.
The watch features 224 baguette-cut gems and the crown has 16 baguette-cut gems and one large rose-cut gem. That’s not even counting the 130 baguette-cut gems on the dial. The watch is self winding and has 216 components. It’s limited edition and there are only 18 like it in the world.
It was a special Super Bowl for Brady since it was his first time doing commentary for the big game, but it’s by no means the only one he’s been to.
The legendary quarterback, who played in the NFL for 23 seasons, and spent 20 years with the New England patriots, has been to 10 Super Bowls. He’s won seven of them, too, making him the quarterback with the most Super Bowl wins (Terry Bradshaw and Joe Montana both won four).
In December, a bunch of Brady’s watches and various pieces of memorabilia sold for $9 million at auction. The collection was auctioned at Sotheby’s New York and people from 45 countries took part in it.
The watches that were included in the auction were timepieces from Patek Philippe, Rolex, IWC, and a custom-made Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Flying Tourbillon, which he wore for Netflix’s Greatest Roast of All Time: The Roast of Tom Brady.
The watch that sold for the most was a Rolex Daytona ‘John Player Special’ in yellow gold, which was estimated to sell somewhere between $600,000 to $900,000. It ultimately went for $1.14 million.
