We all get busy, but it’s never the wrong time to prioritize your health. Tina Knowles, mother of Beyoncé and Solange, opened up about the importance of staying on top of your mammogram schedule, revealing that a screening caught her own cancer very early.

“It’s important not to slack on your mammograms,” the 71-year-old told People, recalling that a scan in July revealed stage 1 cancer in her left breast. “I think as women, sometimes we get so busy and we get so wrapped up and running around, but you must go get your test. Because if I had not gotten my test early, I mean, I shudder to think what could have happened to me.”

And I just thought I had done it. So you cannot play around with that.” Knowles joins a growing chorus of women educating others by sharing the details of their breast cancer journeys, including Bachelor Nation’s Katie Thurston and actor Olivia Munn.

With a positive attitude, Tina Knowles underwent surgery to have a small tumor removed and her breast reduced. “I’m doing great,” she told the outlet. “Cancer-free and incredibly blessed that God allowed me to find it early.”

If you’ve never been evaluated for breast cancer risk, start here with a simple questionnaire to determine the best path forward—mammograms are not always enough to properly detect early stages of cancer, though they’re still a key component.
