Too many people are too willing to bash Uggs, but I just received the best validation I could ever need for wearing my plush, suede boots wherever I want to. The validation in question is Timothée Chalamet wearing his plush, suede boots at a Lakers vs. Knicks game last week—if these cozy shoes are good enough for an A-list actor to wear courtside, they’re definitely good enough for me.
Personally, I’ve never seen why Uggs don’t float everybody’s boat. They’re ridiculously soft and warm, and, sure, they aren’t the sleekest or sexiest shoes on the market, but neither are those chunky neon Hokas you wear, pal. For me, Uggs are a winter and spring essential (and trust me when I tell you I’ll just be switching to my Ugg sandals come summer and fall). For Mr. Chalamet, the Classic Short Uggs are clearly a streetwear vibe, too.
You can’t just pair a vintage Raf Simons Fall 1997 jacket with any old shoe, but if you’re Timothée Chalamet, you can pair them with Uggs (and purple parachute pants). This fit alone is all the proof you should need that Uggs are, in addition to being cozy as hell, cool as hell, too.
This is the second time Chalamet has worn the boots courtside, following his appearance in a black pair of Uggs at the Knicks vs. Grizzlies game in January, so clearly, they’re his basketball game shoe of choice. If you wanna wear these classic Uggs like I wear ’em, reach for a pair of baggy jeans and your favorite hoodie or sweater on a cold day. But if you wanna wear ’em like Chalamet does, get the coolest pieces your closet has to offer and get ready to scan your courtside NBA tickets.
