As it turns out, they’re the very same turtlenecks! Apparently, when bracing for cold weather baseball, the Yankees wanted to feel the comforting familiarity of cotton rather than synthetic (and, almost certainly, technically warmer) materials.

We have to applaud the Yankees here for embracing natural fibers. Hard clothes, if you will. As Seinfeld famously outlined, cotton breathes. It’s much softer. What a fabric! Cotton is king.

But apart from the textile significance, the guys wearing the turtlenecks also look fantastic. There’s a ton of truth behind look good, feel good, play good, and that seems to be fueling the Yankees, who have only lost twice this October. It’s nice for the viewers, too, as there’s something about the turtlenecks that just exudes New York Yankees playoff baseball. Give us a dugout full of players, fighting for a shot at baseball immortality, in a stadium bursting at the seams, while bundled up like they’re going on a ski trip.
