Some of the most iconic performances in VMAs history have involved kissing, and Sabrina Carpenter, in her VMA performance in 2024, contributed to that tradition by making out with an alien on stage. Or rather, making out with a dancer dressed in an alien costume. But because this performance came a day after the presidential debate, during which Donald Trump claimed that “illegal aliens” are getting “transgender surgery” in prison, the jokes were almost too easy.
The big smooch came near the end of the “Taste” portion of Carpenter’s medley. After singing the line, “I’ve been known to share,” Sabrina Carpenter theatrically pushed another dancer out of the way and began making out with the bikini-clad alien herself. It was a goofy, campy moment that’s perfect for any VMA performance, but in 2024, it was also unintentionally political.

“So kind of Sabrina to hire one of the illegal aliens who got transgender surgery in prison as one of her backup dancers,” joked one person on Twitter, referencing Trump’s comment from the debate. Another person quipped, “I can’t believe sabrina just kissed one of the illegal transgender aliens from prison.”
