The Olsen twins have long influenced fashion trends, and with noughties fashion icons like Mary-Kate and Ashley, alongside Sienna Miller, seeing their signature bohemian styles replicated, it was only a matter of time before attention moved to their beauty game too.
Now, the Olsens’ laidback hair color is also seeing a revival.

What is the Olsen dip?
The Olsens are known for loosely tailored, free-spirited aesthetic that expertly skirts feeling overdone and lands somewhere in effortlessly cool. The same goes for their hair. Neither the color nor the styling looked overpolished. Instead, they frequently wore a grown-out, worn-in root that graduated from mid-brown to bright blonde (like a root smudge combined with ombre and dip dye).

Why wear the Olsen dip?
“I like this idea of the dip dye coming back, kind of like a noughties Olsen twins reference,” says Luke Hersheson, celebrity hair stylist and CEO at Hershesons. “It’s not in a way where you would see a line, but it features those very, very light ends with a much darker root. It really pushes the idea that you had your hair done a few months ago, as opposed to it been freshly done,” he adds. “I really like that blend, but it being much more extreme so it feels a bit rock and roll.”
