When you’re in the menswear game for long enough, you come to understand that the most important thing to know is the right basics. Trends come and go, but basics last forever—they’re literally the building blocks of your wardrobe. And if you really know basics, then you know CDLP.
The Swedish label is one of those “if you know, you know, and if you don’t, you should” brands that focus on the stuff we wear constantly, from underwear to tees to pajamas. It came across my radar when one of Esquire’s editors told me it was his favorite white tee of all time—I can confirm that it is now mine, too. (It’s the white heavyweight T-shirt, but the mid-weight version is great too, if you prefer something lighter.)
CDLP champions sustainable fabrics and European construction, but it doesn’t break the bank. Yes, it’ll cost you more than those three-packs of underwear—CDLP’s is excellent, by the way—you can buy at a big-box store. But the difference is noticeable, especially when it comes to the materials. That T-shirt I love is a silky but substantial blend of Lyocell and pima cotton. You can also get it in merino wool. Whatever you opt for, though, it’s going to feel so good that you want to wear it every day.
Honestly, I like to say that CDLP makes No Bullshit Basics. You get what you pay for, down to the detail—sturdy seams, timeless cuts, high-quality fabrics. The brand doesn’t spread itself too thin (you won’t find anything like outerwear or denim here, that’s for sure), so what it does take on, it takes on with care and attention and gets it right every damn time.
