The Housemaid Is Getting a Sequel: Here’s Everything We Know

After The Housemaid, ahem, cleaned up at the box office, the studio behind Paul Feig’s twisty thriller starring Amanda Seyfried and Sydney Sweeney wasted no time announcing a follow-up. And since Freida McFadden’s book series that the movie is based on has three installments (plus one novella), this may not be the end. Are Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried coming back?

According to a press release, stars Sydney Sweeney, who plays the titular housemaid, and Michele Morrone, who plays a groundskeeper, will likely return for the sequel (Sweeney is also an executive producer). Amanda Seyfried and Brandon Sklenar, who played Nina and Andrew Winchester, the wealthy married couple who hired Sweeney’s character Millie have not been mentioned, but (minor spoiler), their character arcs are pretty much wrapped by the end of the first movie.

Who is writing and directing?

Per Lionsgate, Rebecca Sonnenshine, who penned the screenplay for the first movie, will return, and Feig plans to direct as well, though at this stage in the development process, that isn’t completely confirmed.

Feig said in the press release, “It’s been thrilling to see audiences around the world fall in love with The Housemaid and the incredible work of our talented cast and crew. We’re lucky that Freida McFadden has already extended Millie’s journey on the page, and that we get to work with Rebecca Sonnenshine and Lionsgate to bring this next story to audiences.”
