Police were called to a property just before noon on Monday, July 29, according to a statement from the Merseyside Police Department. Police confirmed that a 17-year-old boy had been arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder, and detained. While no motive has been confirmed, police are not treating the incident as a terrorist act.

The North West Ambulance Service, which dispatched 13 emergency response vehicles to the scene, according to their post on X.com, confirmed that they had transported patients to the Alder Hey Children’s Hospital following the incident.

In a news conference on Monday evening, Chief Constable Serena Kennedy said, “It is understood that the children were attending a Taylor Swift event at a dance school when the offender armed with a knife walked into the premises and started to attack the children.” She called the attack “ferocious” and noted that responding officers “were shocked” by the scene.

Taylor Swift fans have begun fundraising for the victims of the attack, calling themselves Swifties for Southport, according to reports.

Swift is currently on the European leg of her international Eras Tour, and is scheduled to perform her next show in Warsaw on Thursday. She has performed several shows in the UK over the past two months, including three shows in Liverpool in June, and is expected to return to London for five more shows at Wembley Stadium in London in August.
