Krypto the flying dog was the not-so-secret weapon of Superman, arguably the highlight of the movie, and since he’s actually Kara’s pet, he’s back. Saving Krypto seems to be the inciting incident of the film, and we can’t think of a more worthy task. If Krypto dies, we riot.
Who’s in the cast?
Milly Alcock stars as Supergirl, a.k.a. Kara Zor-El (a.k.a. Kara Danvers). If the Australian actor looks familiar, that might be because she recently starred as Simone Dewitt in Sirens. The 25-year-old also appeared in the first season of HBO’s House of the Dragon as the young Rhaenyra Targaryen.
Jason Momoa cameos as bounty hunter Lobo, while David Krumholtz and Emily Beecham will play Supergirl’s parents, The Hollywood Reporter reports. Eve Ridley will play the young alien girl Ruthye, while Matthias Schoenaerts will play the villain, Krem.
What’s the plot of Supergirl?
The film was adapted from Tom King’s 2022 comic book series Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, according to Deadline, by writer Ana Nogueira. It will be the second movie under the new DC Studios spearheaded by Gunn and Peter Safran and is directed by Craig Gillespie.
Gunn told reporters that Supergirl’s adventures will look a lot different than Superman’s. “We see the difference between Superman who was sent to Earth and raised by loving parents from the time he was an infant, versus Supergirl who was raised on a rock, a chip off Krypton, and watched everyone around her die and be killed in terrible ways for the first 14 years of her life, and then came to Earth when she was a young girl,” said Gunn. “She’s much more hardcore; she’s not exactly the Supergirl we’re used to seeing.”
When does Supergirl come out?
Supergirl hits theaters June 26, 2026. The palindromic release date (6/26/26!) was first announced back in March 2024.
