Sneaker resale company Stadium Goods will close its store in New York City on Jan. 19, the company confirmed with Complex. Stadium Goods plans to consolidate its retail presence and move the storefront, located at 47 Howard St. in Soho, to a smaller space a block away at 412 Broadway, which it had used previously as a drop-off center for resellers.

Stadium Goods communicated the news of the coming closure in an email sent to its sellers on Dec. 18, 2024.

“As we focus on growing our digital channels, we’ve made the decision to close the retail store at 47 Howard Street in SoHo in January 2025,” read a message in the email attributed to Stadium Goods SVP Michael Daniel. “We expect minimal impact on your business from this change next year. We will be looking into new options for the future of the Stadium Goods retail experience, so stay tuned—exciting updates are coming your way in the new year.”

Stadium Goods opened the location in October 2015, positioning it as a high-end answer to Flight Club, New York’s original temple of exclusive shrink-wrapped sneakers. Stadium Goods became a destination for sneaker resellers looking to unload rare footwear at a significant markup and tourists willing to pay the upcharge to find stuff that was sold out everywhere else. The store has been a frequent shooting location for Complex’s show Sneaker Shopping.

Stadium Goods’ lease on the space at 47 Howard St. is expiring in a few months, and the company opted not to renew. It will refocus resources on its online business, which generates the majority of Stadium Goods’ revenue. But, the company said, it still believes physical retail is important.

“After nine great years at 47 Howard, we’re sadly closing this retail location this month,” Daniel told Complex via email. “However, Stadium Goods is not going anywhere. We’re continuing to invest in our digital business while we work on new plans for the Stadium Goods retail experience.”

News of the closure comes amid struggles for Farfetch, the once-mighty online fashion retailer that acquired Stadium Goods in December 2018. Following years of big-ticket acquisitions and mounting losses, Farfetch escaped bankruptcy after being bailed out by South Korean online retailer Coupang in December 2023.

As its parent company faltered, Stadium Good felt the squeeze. In 2023, the reseller laid off staff and scaled back its retail operation, that July shutting down a Stadium Goods location in Chicago that it had opened in October 2020.
