Peter comments on how lovely Simone looks. Simone’s hair is straight now and not wavy. Is this a dream sequence or this is for real? Again, it’s real, folks. Simone then takes his hand and walks out of the kitchen and into the gala with him. Devon sees this and can’t believe it. Appropriately, Devon asks what all of us at home on our couches are thinking: “Are you with Peter now?” Simone says yes, it just happened. She says they found each other on the beach and were attracted to each other like magnets. “We had this whole conversation and then he said, ‘I think I need to tell you something…I think I’m in love with you,’” Simone says. Wow. Devon asks what this means for Michaela, and Simone says, “If it doesn’t serve you…let it go.” Devon looks at her blankly and says, “Wow.” (I mean, same.) Simone wants to know why her sister is being so judgy, and a stunned Devon is like, “I don’t know, maybe because you took another woman’s husband?” Simone says that Peter initiated it; plus, what is she supposed to do? Not walk through an open door?

Devon realizes there’s nothing more for her to do, so she’s ready to go home and just take care of Dad. But before she goes, she says she’s proud of herself for dropping out of college to take care of Simone. And with the best comeback, Devon says, “You didn’t serve me and I didn’t let you go…but now I have to.” Simone asks why Devon sounds so dramatic, but again, Simone isn’t getting it. Simone tells Devon she loves her and vice versa, but they both know this is kind of the end of things for them. Moments later an emotional Devon watches as Simone joins Peter on stage and they share a toast.

Later, Devon and Bruce (still clad in his tux) board the ferry to head back home to Buffalo. Surprisingly, Devon also sees Michaela get on the ferry. She follows her to the top deck and sits beside her. Devon apologizes to Michaela for saying such awful things to her earlier in the day (you know, like “murder accusations, some light theft, etc.”). Michaela accepts her apology. When Devon asks what’s next for Michaela, she admits she doesn’t know, but before she loses everything, Devon should cash that $10,000 check she gave her when they first met.

Most importantly, Devon asks Michaela what the “hey, hey” thing was all about. Michaela says it basically meant nothing, but “people will do anything for you when you’re Mrs. Kell. You just tell them what the rules are.”

Devon also asks Michaela if she thinks her sister is going to be okay now that she’s with Peter. Michaela says no before switching her tune. “Well, who knows, you know? I’m sure Jocelyn thought the same thing about me, but I had a pretty good run. Took him 13 years to decide I was a monster.” Devon says that Michaela isn’t a monster, and Michaela says, “Neither is she.”

The “she,” of course, is Simone, whom we then see outside the Kell compound, looking over the hillside cliff, the water below. She’s in her stunning blue dress, the sun highlighting her face. She’s the new leading lady of the kingdom, and as far as she’s concerned, all is right in the world. The camera pans out, and that, my friends, is the end.

But is it? Stay tuned for our conversation with creator Molly Smith Metzler, who will soon reveal the answers to all your questions, coming tomorrow, May 23.
