Selena Gomez’s Wedding Sandals Are the New Go-to Shoe for Special Occasions

In case you missed it, Selena Gomez married Benny Blanco yesterday in Santa Barbara, California. It was one of the most-anticipated weddings of the year, and, thankfully, the couple has already shared several photos from their big day.

On September 28, Gomez shared a photo of her first wedding dress (yes, there were two), a custom Ralph Lauren creation. Later on, Blanco shared a few photos of his own on Instagram, including the public’s first glimpse of the bride’s second dress.

The second dress appears to be a sheer lace version of the first, with a halter neckline that Gomez styled with her voluminous tulle veil. In the caption, Blanco wrote, “I married a real-life Disney princess.” As of publishing, the post has 5.3 million likes (and counting).

From her bridal glam to her manicure, we’re so obsessed with the styling. But what we’re gathered here today to discuss are the shoes that accompany this second look. The most classic option for a bride is typically a stiletto, however Gomez opted for cage sandals, a growing trend not only for brides, but also for everyday life.

Cage sandals are characterized by lattice-like straps, especially at the toe of the design. The pair Gomez wore at her wedding have peep-toe style toe and an ankle strap. (Naturally, the 33-year-old went with a white pair.)

This style is the perfect twist on the typical minimalist ’90s strappy sandal. The cage feels a bit retro, like those worn in the 1950s (back then, with a much lower heel) or the round-toe T-strap sandals that are preferred by Broadway dancers.

More details from Selena Gomez’s wedding will probably continue to emerge over the next few days, answering important questions like, what did the bridesmaids wear? (And who were they?) In the meantime, here are a selection of cage sandals that will convince you to wear this trend for fall wedding season and beyond.
