Actor, singer, businesswoman…mom? Selena Gomez opened up about her family plans and her relationship with songwriter and producer Benny Blanco, and it sounds like they’re really great together.
“He isn’t my only source of happiness,” Gomez says told Time for its recent cover story on the beauty mogul. The actor has been open about her mental health struggles, and is candid about how hard she found it to be single, at first. “I was alone for five years, and I got really used to it. A lot of people are afraid of being alone and I probably tortured myself in my head for like two years being alone, and then I kind of accepted it,” she said, adding that she came up with a “plan” to have a family, man or no. “I was going to adopt at 35 if I had not met anyone.”

Gomez is 31, so it’s a little early to know if the “plan” will be changing, but right now, she’s very happy. Blanco said during a Howard Stern interview that he wants to marry and have children with Gomez, to which the Only Murders in the Building star responded in the Time interview, “He can’t lie to save his life. If he’s asked a question, he’ll answer it.”
She also praised Blanco’s ability to brush off criticism, which, with a fan base as devoted as Selena Gomez’s, can be a mighty task. Her own fans questioned her relationship when it began, and though she’s stopped clapping back on Instagram, she hasn’t forgotten. “I know what people can do to people I love. My own fans, who I adore and feel like have shaped who I am, will say the most hurtful things to me about how I live my life. But he has the strength in him that none of that noise fazes him. It’s really impressive, and I just cherish every moment with him. I don’t know what the future holds, but I do know that he’s not going anywhere any time soon.”
