The tendency for love songs to woefully veer into the treacherous waters of corniness has been highlighted by Rihanna in a new Savage X Fenty promo clip.

As seen below, the Valentine’s Day-themed video sees RiRi being presented with a series of either-or questions, a la “Galentine’s or Valentine’s” and “getaway or stay-at-home,” etc. On the latter, notably, Rihanna proposed that staying at home can in and of itself be considered a getaway, of sorts.

Eventually, the clip arrives at the topic of love songs, with the Savage X Fenty founder asked if she prefers either a “love song” or a “love letter.” As evidenced by the “ugh” that preceded her response, it’s safe to say Rihanna is no fan of having love songs penned about her.

“Please never make me a love song,” she said. “That is corny. Trust me. I’ve seen it.”

Predictably, the gossip-prone among us were quick to engage in speculation of the Drake variety after seeing the quip making the rounds. The two have been entwined in headlines thanks to various lyrics over the years, including in connection with the 2023 For All the Dogs cut “Fear of Heights.” At any rate, see more from RiRi and company below.

To be fair, Rihanna herself has no shortage of love songs in her catalog, including the Anti track “Love on the Brain” and “We Found Love” off Talk That Talk. Anti, notably, remains the singer’s most recent studio album as of this writing, with fans still awaiting firm info on a follow-up nine years later. In fact, the acclaimed album marked its ninth anniversary today, Jan. 28.
