Rihanna has never met a red carpet she can’t slay. Just earlier this month, she (and her baby bump) hit the Met Gala in New York, where she was the last guest to walk the blue carpet in a show-stopping Marc Jacobs ’fit.
Two weeks later, Rihanna and A$AP Rocky made a surprise appearance at a Cannes Film Festival screening of Spike Lee’s new film, Highest 2 Lowest. In an early 2000’s-inspired Alaïa dress, which she styled with an equally early 2000’s-esque updo, she’s definitely in the running for the title of best-dressed at this year’s fest.
Listen—you don’t always need volume or nudity (neither of which are allowed at this year’s festival anyway) in order to make an entrance. With her asymmetrical turquoise cutout dress, Rihanna proves that cut and color can be just as exciting as visible nipples or 10-foot long trains.
