In case you haven’t heard, Emily Henry—a BookTok fave and reigning queen of the romance novel—has a bunch of adaptations in the works. We’re especially looking forward to a People We Meet on Vacation movie, which will be released on Netflix early next year and is sure to become your new favorite rom-com.

Here’s everything we know about the upcoming love story.

What is People We Meet on Vacation about?

The book follows polar opposite best friends Poppy and Alex, who reunite every summer for one week of vacation. Think One Day, but not sad. (If you wanna know what happens ASAP, check out the book!)

The movie version follows a similar story. Here’s the logline according to Netflix: “Free-spirited Poppy and routine-loving Alex have been unlikely best friends for a decade, living in different cities but spending every summer vacation together. The careful balance of their friendship is put to the test when they begin to question what has been obvious to everyone else—could they actually be the perfect romantic match?”

Who is making People We Meet on Vacation?

Fellow novelist Yulin Kuang wrote the screenplay for a film adaptation alongside Amos Vernon and Nunzio Randazzo. The movie was directed by Brett Haley (Hearts Beat Loud, Looking for Alaska).

Who is in the cast of People We Meet on Vacation?

Poppy and Alex will be played by Emily Bader (My Lady Jane) and Tom Blyth (The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes), respectively. On August 2, Netflix released a downright adorable Instagram video of the moment Bader was offered the role, with Blyth and even Henry herself jumping on the video call. Everyone very excited to start filming.

“I’ve been kind of an anxious wreck about who would play these characters,” Henry told Netflix. “I truly could not feel more confident that my readers and then so many more people who don’t even know about the book are going to completely fall in love with Poppy and Alex.”

“I watched their chemistry read four times in 12 hours and I loved it more every single time,” Henry continued. “The very first time I was laughing out loud, and I got so emotional by the end.”
