Gou’s set at EDC México last night was also a 194Gou soft launch, insofar as the brand arranged for 40 enormous white beach balls printed with the purple “194구” logo to be set loose on the crowd when the DJ hit the stage. Though she jokes that, from her vantage point in the DJ booth, “sometimes you can’t tell if they’re really enjoying or they’re like, ‘Get these out of my face,’” it was nonetheless “a very cute surprise.”
Before 194Gou launches globally on April 2, Gou talks to GQ about the best way to drink it—plus a few more of her favorite things right now.
Working out on the go
Every time I go anywhere, I always look up the best restaurants, best museums, and I start my day with working out as well. That really helps with everything. Stamina, sleep, everything. Every time I look for any hotel, I always look for the one that has a good gym. Especially when you are traveling with different time zone, [I try] to do certain things on regular time. It helps with jetlag.
The exercise that makes me feel like, “Yes, I did it,” is not necessarily my favorite, but I do like doing my ass workout. Hip thrusts, I love. I love working on my back. I think back is very important.
194Gou by Tequila Don Julio
I literally get involved in everything that I do, especially when it comes to collaborations. Don Julio has given me many, many, many good memories, and sometimes no memory at all. But it is always on my rider. It’s my favorite drink. So when they proposed the collaboration, I was very thrilled to do this and I really wanted to get involved because I wanted to make it right. I don’t do any collaborations that I don’t love. It was a long process—I love the shape of the bottle and the color and a little bit of my identity there. I’m very happy with how it came out. And by the way, I always think that purple is an underrated color.
It’s an amazing tequila. Sometimes I drink from the bottle. I’m pretty sure whoever designed this new bottle designed it so you can drink it from the bottle, you know what I mean? It’s a pretty good shape to do that. But I also like it on the rocks as well.
Kendrick Lamar
I think everyone’s obsessed with Kendrick right now. There are some funny memes about him; ever since his Super Bowl performance, everyone started walking this way. I’ve been a big fan ever since his existence and just every year, he surprises me. He seems like he is involved in everything. I love artists like that.
Wellness rituals
I always get stuck at the security check [in the airport]. “What is this?” I have to explain so many things because I bring this [massage] device from Korea.. Koreans are crazy with stuff like this. I travel with my own foam roller, which is a very hardcore foam roller. I mean, I love getting massages, but if I can’t get someone really strong, I use that. I travel with my supplements as well, something that boosts your energy or helps digestion, all the emergency ones as well. And, of course, face masks from Korea.
