One of the biggest moves during the NBA offseason this past summer was All-Star forward Paul George leaving the Los Angeles Clippers and joining the Philadelphia 76ers. After George’s decision was announced, conspiracy theories began circulating around the fact that he wore the “Philly” Nike Kobe 4 during his last game with the Clippers.
On the latest episode of Complex’s Sneaker Shopping, host Joe La Puma asked George whether there was any foreshadowing involved in his decision to wear the Philadelphia-themed Kobe 4 colorway on May 3 when the Clippers faced off against the Dallas Mavericks. George denied the rumor, explaining that he wore the sneaker throughout the series simply because he likes the shoe.
“The 4s are probably one of my favorite Kobes. It just worked out that way,” George said. “There was nothing behind it. There was no planning ahead. I didn’t even know Philly was an option. I thought I was going to be a Clipper for the rest of my career but Philly fans ran with it.”
Aside from the controversy surrounding his “Philly” Kobe 4s, George also talked about his Nike PG sneakers being on NBA2K, where his signature sneaker line ranks, and more. Check out the latest Sneaker Shopping episode in its entirety below.
