Fresh off the plane from Thailand, where Patrick Schwarzenegger had just spent six-and-a-half months filming the highly anticipated third season of HBO’s The White Lotus, the actor soon found himself sipping a coffee at a Central Park chess table while dressed in head-to-toe Tommy Hilfger. We’re talking the full East Coast prep autumnal uniform: hefty wool overcoats, rugby polos, striped scarves, cashmere cable-knit sweaters.
“It couldn’t have been more opposite of what we were wearing and doing on White Lotus,” recalled Schwarzenegger, speaking recently from Los Angeles. “It made me crave fall.”
The campaign shoot, which was photographed by Alasdair McLellan for Tommy Hilfger’s fall-winter campaign, reunited the actor with his fiancée, the model Abby Champion. He relished the chance to “showcase our relationship in a place like New York that just felt so beautiful and all-American and fall and Central Park.”
“I actually get a lot more uncomfortable—or shy, per se—on a photo shoot set than I do on a film set. I feel like when I’m on a film set and I’m becoming a character, putting myself into someone else’s shoes, you know what you’re getting into each and every day,” Schwarzenegger said. “When you’re on a photo shoot like this, you’re you, which is fun and great, but it’s also you’re not sure sometimes what to be doing.” (Jeremy Allen White, who also recently toggled from acting to modeling for another glossy American sportswear campaign, told me something similar.) Having his professional-model partner co-starring on the Tommy shoot was a plus: “Luckily, Abby’s such a pro with all of this, and she does this for a living each and every day,” he added.
