To no one’s surprise, sneaker releases attached to the late Los Angeles Lakers legend Kobe Bryant are still as popular as ever—so much so that Nike’s CFO, Matt Friend, confirmed in the brand’s latest earnings call that the line saw significant growth within the last year.
During Nike’s Q1 FY2025 earnings call on October 1, Friend shared that revenue from its new footwear products was up double-digits from just a year prior. He then pointed out the Kobe line, stating that it quadrupled its growth in the last 12 months, but specific numbers weren’t disclosed.
“Looking more broadly across our product portfolio, particularly in footwear, we see clear indications of progress in accelerating newness and innovation. Q1 revenue from new footwear products was up strong double-digits versus the prior year,” Friend said. “This includes multiple franchises that have scaled quickly, based on unit growth over the past twelve months. For example, in performance footwear, Sabrina has grown roughly five times, Kobe has nearly quadrupled, and AlphaFly has almost tripled.”
The growth also shouldn’t be too surprising for those paying attention to the Nike Kobe releases in the last year. In 2024 thus far, 15 different Kobe styles have hit retail compared to only three colorways that dropped in 2023.
