In yet another People story published that evening, a source says, “Their split is turning dramatic. Nicole’s hurt and feels betrayed.… She wanted to save their marriage and believed that she could, but it seems he’s already moved on.”
September 29, 2025: Multiple outlets report that Kidman and Urban have separated after nearly 19 years of marriage. Speaking to People, a source implies that the decision to split was not a mutual one.
“[Nicole] didn’t want this,” the source said. “She has been fighting to save the marriage.” The same source notes that Kidman’s sister, Antonia, as well as the rest of the Kidman family, had come together to offer their support.
September 26, 2025: During a performance on his High and Alive Tour, Urban changes a lyric in his song “The Fighter,” which was originally written as a love song for Kidman. Urban sang the duet, which he recorded with Carrie Underwood on his 2016 record Ripcord, with guitarist Maggie Baugh.
During the performance, Urban swapped the original lyric “When they’re tryna get to you, baby I’ll be the fighter” for “When they’re tryna get to you, Maggie I’ll be your guitar player.” Baugh, 25, shared the moment on Instagram with the caption, “Did he just say that👀.”
Speaking to Billboard in 2016, Urban said that the inspiration for the song was “all from a conversation my wife and I had early on in our relationship, that when things get tough, I need to hold her tighter and just try to take care of her,” Urban said at the time. “The song is about wanting to heal somebody, wanting to take care of somebody, wanting to protect somebody. It’s really like a vow in so many ways.”
September 6, 2025: Kidman signs a parenting plan, which outlines the custody arrangement for the couple’s two daughters.
August 29, 2025: Urban signs the parenting plan first, about a week before Kidman.
July 22, 2025: Urban has an awkward moment during an interview with Ryan Seacrest after the host brings up Kidman’s busy schedule.
“Do people tell you your wife is in everything? Like everything. Nicole Kidman is in everything,” Seacrest says. Urban jokes that Kidman is “almost as busy” as Seacrest, who follows up, asking, “Is that something with your life, her life, and mapping it all out with production and touring—that’s a job, isn’t it?”
The singer appeared uncomfortable and said, after a long pause, “It’s a job. Yeah.… Life is in session.”
July 1, 2025: Urban appears to abruptly end a radio interview after the hosts prod the country singer about his reaction to Kidman’s sex scenes.
A producer for Hayley & Max in the Morning, which airs in the couple’s native Australia, tells the hosts that Urban has been disconnected from the Zoom call, though a rep for Urban later denies that it was he who left the interview. “Keith did not hang up, period,” a source told People. “He doesn’t host his Zoom interviews.”
