Miranda Derrick is speaking out for a second time following the May 29 release of Netflix’s three-part docuseries, Dancing for the Devil: The 7M TikTok Cult.

In a video published on June 10 on Instagram, Derrick speaks to camera about the impact the documentary has had on her and her husband’s lives. “Since this documentary came out, we feel like our lives have been put in danger,” she says, perched on the edge of a bed wearing mint green leggings and a black racerback tank.

Derrick and her husband, the dancer James “BDash” Derrick, are featured prominently in the docuseries as members of the alleged 7M cult, run by Robert Shinn, who is also the founder and pastor at LA’s Shekinah church. Derrick’s parents, as well as her younger sister Melanie Ekeler, describe their experience “losing” her to 7M Films, the management company which represents the dance careers of Derrick, her husband, and several others who grew their following on TikTok. The series has spent several days in the number one spot of Netflix’s most-viewed TV shows.

“People have been sending us messages to commit suicide,” Derrick says to camera in her video, sharing screenshots of comments and DMs. “We’ve been stalked. Someone said ‘if I see you in the street I’m gonna come and gut you so you better get security.’ These are just some of the messages that I have been receiving behind-the-scenes.”

She continues, “I don’t understand how my parents and my sister thought this documentary would help me or would help our relationship in any way—I don’t understand that.”

As for her relationship with her family, she says that at the moment, things are strained. “I have been getting together with my family—privately—for the past couple years, to work on our relationship, to make things right, to mend what has been broken, and I’ve been loving it,” she says. “I’ve been loving getting together, laughing, just enjoying each other’s company, and this documentary has made it very difficult to continue doing that.”
