Glamour: First things first…Can I ask what lip pencil you’re using right now?

Madeline Brewer: This is a Charlotte Tilbury iconic nude. It’s the only one I use ever. [My fiancé and I] are going out for dinner after this so I’m doing a little makeup touch-up.

During your recent appearance on Penn Badgley’s podcast, Podcrushed, you mentioned you were taking a college class—

I literally just finished my class yesterday, which is in part why we’re going out for drinks. Because I’m celebrating. I’m just taking some classes at The New School to hopefully chip away at a bachelor’s degree. Bachelor in what? I’m not sure yet.

Is there something you need a bachelor’s degree for, in particular?

I wanted to pursue a bachelor’s degree just for my own enrichment. So much of my life is about my career, or like my relationship. You know, I give so much to those things—willingly and lovingly so—but I wanted to do something that is not a means to an end for my career. Something that’s totally for me.

I picked a weird time. I picked the busiest press cycle of my life and planning a wedding and taking a class on Friedrich Nietzsche. I don’t know who did that. November Maddie was really ambitious. It was incredibly difficult and I passed by the skin of my teeth but I did it.

Did you hire a wedding planner to make that part of the process any easier?

No. Jack and I have done it all on our own.

What’s the hardest part?

Booking the bar, which we’re still doing. We used a lot of our budget on the venue and we have this incredible caterer. But, they’re English, they’re drinkers. We gotta have a bar.

Is it fair to say it was a good thing you had all these distractions once season five of You came out?

It has been nice to have something that I’m like, You know what? I have other things to do. I have a wedding to plan, because I’m going to marry a man who loves me and is obsessed with me and who I’m obsessed with and I’m also gonna study Frederick Nietzsche, because I have other things to think about with my brain.

I actually found out about the backlash to your character because I saw multiple TikTok videos sticking up for you in a row.

Oh oh oh? That’s different

Yes! They were criticizing fans for taking their opinions of Bronte out on you and your appearance. Then I looked into it and at your own comments section and I was like, “Whoa! What is happening here?” But we know what’s happening here.

It’s intense, but I had about five minutes of being upset about it, and then I got over it.

How did you get over it?

I don’t know. My short answer is that I just call my mom and I call my fiancé, and they love me so much, and I’m like, “okay, I’m fine.” But the longer answer is really, like, it kind of triggered, like little Maddie, like childhood Maddie, and the Maddie that was a little bit bullied. Then I spent a little bit of time with that, thinking about that, thinking about what that feels like, what these people are saying. And then I kind of processed it. And now I just don’t care.
