Lily Collins was photographed in New York City on December 9, with a crisp, black wool coat over her shoulders but without obscuring the dress. The dress, by the way, is a strapless, sequined mini, further adorned with a cheeky peplum. Collins layered the dress over mostly-sheer black tights, and added a pair of strappy black heels. Miraculously, she didn’t even look cold.

Obviously, the crisp black overcoat is not the only option for formal winter outerwear this season. The faux fur, for instance, is once again having its moment, and it is surprisingly easy to style.
