Richard Mille RM67-02 Automatic Winding Extra Flat Italy
Let’s start with one of his most recent picks: Richard Mille’s RM67-02 Italy edition. He wore it on his first lap on the job with Ferrari—a particularly fitting choice considering he’s now zipping around the track in an Italian car. It comes in a red, white, and green colorway, uses carbon-plate technology to shave off some weight, and is both ultrathin and built for shock absorption.

And that’s not the only RM watch he’s been wearing. At the Spanish Grand Prix this year, he wore one that was worth more than $2 million. It’s the watch designer’s most recent collaboration with Ferrari, and there are only 75 of them in existence. It’s inspired by the car brand’s iconic logo, the Prancing Horse, and has 514 meticulously crafted components that deliver a tourbillon with a split-second chronograph.

This year’s F1 season kicked off on Hamilton’s home turf, London. To mark the occasion, he went for Richard Mille’s RM 74-02 Automatic Winding Tourbillon (which is also a favorite of Pharrell’s, by the way). It has the brand’s signature open-worked automatic movement, as well as an 18-karat red-gold main plate and yellow-gold bridges that create a subtle tonal contrast within the visual mechanics.
IWC Portugieser Constant-Force Tourbillon
It seems Hamilton was feeling nostalgic during the Las Vegas Grand Prix last year. Instead of going for a brand-new IWC, he pulled out a Portugieser Constant-Force Tourbillon, which first dropped in 2018. Seeing as this was nearing the end of his tenure for both Mercedes and IWC, we don’t blame him. The subtle navy dial, understated complications, and black leather strap make this one of the most classic watches in the driver’s collection.

Hamilton’s no stranger to a big fashion fit. So when he collaborated with IWC back in 2019 on a Big Pilot—which was limited to just 100 units globally—in his signature style, he went big on design. From the sunray-brushed Bordeaux dial to the gold-plated hands and the black zirconium-oxide ceramic case, it’s a watch you can’t miss. Aesthetics aside, it’s built with a complex automatic winding movement that even automatically adjusts for leap years.
IWC Pilot’s Watch Chronograph 41 Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team Edition
Now we’ve got perhaps his most iconic watch moment to date. In 2022, at the first Miami Grand Prix, Hamilton wore not one, not two, but three watches to the prerace press conference. You might think it’s a little, well, much. But there was good reasoning behind it that goes beyond flashing his impressive collection; it was a stunt in protest of the FIA’s (Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile) proposed ban on wearing jewelry while racing.
The watches in question were all by IWC: There was one with neon-blue detailing made in collaboration with Mercedes; one in a light-brown colorway inspired by Naval Air Weapons Station China Lake, the location where they filmed Top Gun: Maverick; and Hamilton’s tried-and-tested classic, a Big Pilot from 2017.
IWC Black Lives Matter Ceratanium IW5030BLM
Hamilton has been known to use horology to make a statement. This time, it was in support of the Black Lives Matter movement. The Swiss brand crafted an almost entirely black Big Pilot Perpetual Calendar, bar the hands and one complication, even down to the Ceratanium bracelet. There’s only one of these in existence, making it the rarest of the lot.
