During last night’s Golden Globes, I—alongside a slew of well-dressed actors—made the case for accessorizing more in 2025. I still stand by that. But there is always something to be said for relying on a classic, timeless, traditional black suit. Especially if it’s the same exact suit you’ve been wearing for the last two decades, like Billy Bob Thornton.
The lead of Taylor Sheridan’s new drama, Landman, skipped the red carpet but was photographed inside wearing a black, three-button suit with a high-button stance on the jacket. That little detail always has a late-’90s, early-aughts look, in my eyes. And as it turns out, it’s because Thornton’s suit is actually from that era. In an interview with Entertainment Tonight about his Golden Globes nomination, the actor revealed that he’s worn the exact same suit “to every event and awards show for probably nearly 20 years—and when I say the same suit, I don’t mean the same kind of suit. It’s the same suit.”
Thornton also added that the Beatles-inspired suit, which is from Beatwear in Liverpool, England, is only (or at least was only, 20 years ago) 150 bucks. Talk about an investment piece. And if it’s not broken, why fix it?
No matter how many eco-friendly, sustainable measures you’re taking when it comes to your wardrobe, I’m willing to bet that Billy Bob Thornton has you beat with this suit. He’s taken underconsumption to the next level. Here’s a tip: Buy pieces you love now, and that you’ll still love in 2045. Reduce, reuse, and recycle, baby.
